It is the Brazilian Tourism Map that defines the area - the territorial cut - that should be prioritized by the Ministry. It is updated biennially, and its latest version, from 2019, has 2,694 municipalities, divided into 333 tourist regions. The municipalities that compose it were indicated by state tourism bodies in conjunction with regional governance bodies, based on criteria built in conjunction with the Ministry of Tourism.
