Database of Political Institutions (DPI)

The Database of Political Institutions (DPI) presents data on institutional and electoral outcomes, such as measures of checks and balances, government tenure and stability, identification of party affiliation and ideology, and fragmentation of opposition and government parties in the legislature, among others. The current version of the database, currently hosted by the IDB, expands its coverage to about 180 countries over 40+ years, 1975-2020. Researchers from the World Bank Development Research Group first compiled the database in 2000 (see citation information below).
