Exchange Rate
Set of time series of various exchange rates in Brazil. Series of daily exchange rate bulletins available since January 2, 2002, for the euro, and since November 28, 1984, for the other currencies. For the dollar, it refers to the managed rates until March 1990 and the free rates from then on (Resolution 1690, of 18.3.1990). The managed rates are those set by the Central Bank; from March 1992, this rate was called PTAX rate (closing). Up to June 30, 2011, the free rates correspond to the average of the effective rates of operations in the interbank market, weighted by the volume of transactions of the day. As of July 1, 2011 (Circular 3506, of 9.23.2010), Ptax became the arithmetic average of the rates obtained in four daily inquiries to foreign exchange dealers and reflect the rate traded at the time of opening the inquiry window; the PTAX closing bulletin corresponds to the arithmetic average of the rates of the day’s bulletins. The parities of other currencies against the US dollar (USD) are obtained from information agencies. The quotations in relation to the current monetary unit are based on the quotations of the current monetary unit against the USD divided by the parities against the USD for type A currencies, and multiplied by the parities against the USD for type B currencies.
