School Census

The School Census is the main instrument for collecting information on basic education and the most important Brazilian educational statistical survey. It is coordinated by Inep and carried out in a collaborative regime between state and municipal education departments and with the participation of all public and private schools in the country. It covers the different stages and modalities of basic and professional education: - Regular education (early childhood education, elementary and secondary education); - Special education – substitute modality; - Youth and Adult Education (EJA); - Professional education (technical courses and initial continuing education courses or professional qualification). The collection of data from schools is declarative and is divided into two stages. The first stage consists of filling out the Initial Enrollment, when information is collected on educational institutions, managers, classes, students and school professionals in the classroom. The second stage occurs with the filling out of information on the Student's Situation, and considers data on the movement and school performance of students, at the end of the school year.
