National Public Forest Registry (CNFP)

The National Public Forest Registry (CNFP) is a forest management planning instrument that gathers georeferenced data on Brazilian public forests, in order to offer public managers and the general population a reliable base of maps, images and data with information relevant to forest management. CNFP data assists in the processes of allocating public forests for community use, creating conservation units, and granting forest concessions. The Registry contributes to transparency, social participation, and the unification of information on public forests. The CNFP is composed of the Public Forest Registry of the Union, the Public Forest Registries of the states, the Federal District, and the municipalities, and is in the process of being linked to the National Rural Cadastre System (SNCR) of the National Institute of Colonization and Agrarian Reform (INCRA). The update of the National Public Forest Registry (CNFP) was completed in January 2019. The total area of public forests registered in 2018 corresponds to approximately 309.7 million hectares. This value is equivalent to 36.3% of Brazilian territory and represents a reduction of 0.6% compared to 2017.
